I found out that instead of spending $18 plus about 3 hours to visit the Statue of Liberty, that I could take some of photos of it from the Staten Island Ferry (which is free & a 1 hour round trip). I took the subway down to the ferry station in Battery Park. A majority of the people on the ferry moved to the side that would pass by the Statue of Liberty. I was able to get a decent spot on the boat & with the help of the long zoom lens on my camera, I got some nice shots of lady liberty.
After the ferry ride & a walk around south Manhattan, I headed to Central Park to see more of the park & also stopped at the Trump Tower before heading back to the hotel to pick up my luggage. Walking through the lobby of the Trump Tower reminded me of Moscow. There were big unwelcoming security guards dressed in suits all over the place.
The Trump store which is near the Trump bar & the Trump restaurant.
After picking up my luggage at the hotel, I headed to the bus station two blocks away. The bus ride to the Airbnb place I was staying in New Jersey was only 20 minutes. I normally rent an entire apartment when traveling, but in New York that would have cost $150+, so renting a room in a house for $55/night was a reasonable compromise especially since I planned to spend most of my time sightseeing. The owner of the place that I was renting was a very nice lady originally from Poland who moved to the USA 30 years ago. The room was nice, had a comfortable bed, & air conditioning.
The owner told me about a great spot to take some photos of the Manhattan skyline that was only a short bus ride away. The place is called Old Glory Park & it is on a hill overlooking the Hudson River & New York City. Here are few of the photos that I took that night. You can see Times Square (H&M building), the Empire State building, & the Freedom Tower (next to the old World Trade Center location).
The Freedom Tower is the tall building in the center with the antenna.
